HTC Teases Upcoming Smartphone With 13-Megapixel Camera, OIS, and More

HTC has teased an upcoming smartphone on Weibo and shared some details about the handset's camera. In the meanwhile, a new HTC handset tipped to be the One X9 has been leaked in images.

In a post on Tuesday, the Taiwanese company confirmed the launch of an upcoming smartphone which will sport a 13-megapixel rear camera and will pack features such as OIS (optical image stabilisation) and the capability to click RAW images. The company in its teaser post also mentioned the HTC One A9, tipping that the upcoming smartphone may be a follow-up to the handset, possible the recently rumoured HTC One X9.

Unfortunately, the company has so far not revealed any details about the launch of the handset. We can expect HTC to share an announcement related to the launch soon.

In other news, HTC's unannounced One X9 has been spotted in render images. Looking at the leaked images (via Weibo user), the HTC One X9 seems to purportedly sport similar design as the One A9. The front can be seen possibly housing the dual speakers both above and below the display. The rear can be seen featuring the camera on one side of the handset. One of the notable features seen in the purported leaked images is that the HTC One X9 features capacitive navigation buttons, unlike the One A9 that comes with on-screen buttons.

HTC, soon after unveiling the One A9 smartphone, had announced that it will bring the handset's design to its upcoming smartphones in the premium M-series and mid-range Desire family. Jack Tong, President, HTC North Asia, was quoted as saying, "Starting with the One A9, our design language will enter a different and fashionable phase."

Last week, the HTC One A9 smartphone went on sale in Indiapriced at Rs. 29,990.

In short, you are getting flagship features in a smartphone that is supposed to be present in the mid-ranged category. However, perhaps the biggest embarrassment to Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5, the flagship smartphone that is powered by the company’s own Exynos 7420 is that the upcoming handset is going to feature a massive 4,000mAh, compared to the latter’s 3,000mAh cell.

That’s not all, because Galaxy A9 is also expected to sport a 6 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p. Naturally, due to pricing constraints, Samsung was forced to make a few sacrifices along the way, with the most notable ones being a 13MP/8MP rear and front camera sensor combination. However, the rear camera will still be able to capture 4K footage, which is impressive in its own right. We are thoroughly impressed that the South Korean tech giant has finally started to give the right amount of attention to its mid-ranged family and we are sincerely hoping that the smartphone comes with Marshmallow 6.0 installed.

Another thing that we are hoping for is that Samsung tones down the resource consumption metric of its TouchWiz interface. The interface has been severely criticized for being a memory hog and while Samsung has excelled in the hardware side of the business, it has much to prove in the software side. We hope that a string of mistakes has compelled the company to make the right choices and we hope that Galaxy A9 is also priced in such a manner that delivers the ideal price/performance ratio to consumers worldwide.

Moto X Style Starts Receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update: Reports

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is finally rolling out to the Moto X Stylehandset. The Lenovo-owned company has started to roll out the software update to the handset, according to multiple reports. The update is improving the Moto X Style's battery life. The update comes a week after the company began to soak test Android 6.0 on the Moto X Style in several European countries.

Several users on Reddit note that the update is substantially improving the battery life on their device. A user, for instance, said that after upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Moto X Style now offers 7-8 hours of screen-on-time on a single charge. The handset, according to the user, offered up to six hours of screen-on-time prior to the update. Several other users have chimed in to support the claim. If this is indeed the case, Motorola has fixed one of most annoying issues in an otherwise pretty decent smartphone. It is not known exactly which regions are getting Android 6.0 currently, though the rollout in some suggests that other regions will be getting the update soon, too.

Motorola announced earlier this month that it would be upgrading the Moto X Style, and a range of other Moto handsets to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Updating the announcement blog post from October, the company also noted that the Moto E (Gen 2) handset, which was launched earlier this year, will be receiving the update. The handset wasn't included in the previous announcement, which caused the company to receive a lot of backlash from users.

Google's latest major upgrade to its mobile operating system comes with a handful of new, enticing features. Now on Tap, Doze are the two chief new additions included in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. The latter intelligently puts the device in hibernation mode when not in use.
